This web site is dedicated to the memory of my grandfather, James T. Hume, who collected Springfield shoulder arms and accoutrements in the fifties and early sixties.  His goal was to have a collection of each major model of standard issue infantry shoulder arm in our armed service.  He succeeded in this (along with several experimental arms) with the exception of the Model 1795, which I hope to someday acquire.  He also collected ammunition, cartridge boxes, and tools that went with each arm.  When I took possession of the collection I immediately started to clean up the accoutrements, which had sat in boxes in our basement for 40 years, in order to display them with the arms.  He died when I was 4 years old and he never got around to cataloging the pieces so I've spent a lot of time researching what each piece is and what arm it was issued with.  Fortunately, he did have many books on the subject (some of which are antiques in their own right) and I have purchased some additional books to help identify everything.        

     I have yet to find a web site that contains information and pictures of all the Springfield arms.  So I thought I would create a web site that provided detailed photos of each arm along with a brief description and information of interest for other Springfield enthusiasts, while at the same time showcasing my grandfather's collection for everyone to enjoy. 

     The information on each piece is quite basic as I have only just started researching my new hobby.  If anyone finds any discrepancies in the descriptions or has any information to share or would like additional information, I would be happy to hear from you.  Contact Me
