Hagner No.1 and No. 2 Cartridge Boxes
Designed in 1872 by Colonel Paul V. Hagner of the Ordnance Department.
It holds 24 cartridges in 3 rows and has a side pocket for a combination tool.
Our specimen has "US" embossed on the front. It is stamped "No. 1" on
the back at the top. The end of the tab is stamped "C.T.S.".
The Hagner No. 2 cartridge box was issued concurrently with the No.1.
It too holds 24 cartridges in 3 rows and has a side pocket for a combination
tool.
Our specimen has "US" embossed on the front. It is stamped "No. 2" on
the back at the top. The end of the tab is stamped "J.T.". Another
specimen in our collection is stamped on the end of the tab "N.M.".
